Greg McEnnally was born and raised in Sydney and graduated from university with a Bachelor of Applied Science. He spent most of his working life as a science and maths teacher, working in Australia and Papua New Guinea, before opting to teach English as a foreign language in Indonesia, and China.
In 2018, Greg walked the Camino, starting from St Jean Pied de Port in France and concluding in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, a distance of some 800 kilometres, taking his 40 days to complete.
He subsequently wrote a book about his experiences along the way.
The overarching theme of You’ll Never Walk Alone, is that despite tackling the Camino solo, he never felt like he was truly on his own. Along the way, he encountered numerous people, sharing not only the physical path but also profound connections. And of course, he was always walking with God.
The walk itself along steep rocky trails was physically exhausting, but spiritually uplifting. Greg writes of the blisters and the blessings, of getting lost and being found.
If the Camino is on your bucket list, or you’re simply interested in an armchair pilgrimage, Greg’s book provides some wonderful insights. It would make a thoughtful Christmas gift.
