As part of the cultural events taking place for the Jubilee Year in Rome, artworks such as the painting of the White crucifixion by Marc Chagall and 100 nativity scenes in St Peter’s have decorated the eternal city.
The latest art instalment running from 7 March until 6 July, will see a major exhibition at Palazzo Barberini dedicated to Caravaggio.
Among the outstanding pieces on show will be exhibited a key work of art, the Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, which was the last painting by the master.
Since 2023, with the exhibition on El Greco in the Church of St Agnes, located in Piazza Navona, the Jubilee has been organising cultural events leading to the year of Hope. It included paintings such as Christ Embraced the Cross, The Holy Family or The Baptism.
Shortly before the opening of the Jubilee, still in November, the Dicastery for Evangelisation promoted the exhibition of Marc Chagall’s masterpiece, White Crucifixion. The work showed a strong message for defense of human dignity and dialogue between cultures. One of the works dearest to Pope Francis.
During the Christmas season, it is very common to see an exhibition, on the left side of the columns in St Peter’s Square, of small nativity scenes from all over the world. This year, on the occasion of the Jubilee, there were many special ones.
