Women leaders from across business, finance and the community sector have called for continued action to address gender inequality, during an International Women’s Day event hosted by CatholicCare Sydney.
The panel, held on 8 March at Commonwealth Bank’s Darling Harbour offices, brought together senior figures to discuss how women are working to “balance the scales” in workplaces and society.
Among the speakers were ASIC commissioner Simone Constant, Webject Group CEO Katrina Barry, Bendelta co-founder Natalie Micarone, and Commonwealth Bank group customer advocate Angela MacMillan.
Panellists reflected on persistent challenges for women in leadership, particularly in industries historically dominated by men, while also pointing to signs of cultural change.
MacMillan highlighted the case of a Commonwealth Bank customer who experienced financial abuse, whose decision to speak out led to changes in how the bank identifies harmful language in transactions – an initiative now supporting customers in Australia and internationally.
Speakers emphasised the importance of resilience, leadership and practical support for women and families, particularly in the face of economic pressures and complex social challenges.
CatholicCare Sydney said its HOPE program continues to focus on strengths-based support for women and children, aiming to build resilience and long-term stability.
