We have some great conversations at The Catholic Weekly, and this letters page is your place to join us.

It is especially for you if posting your thoughts on social media is not your thing. But you’re always welcome to join us on Facebook and Instagram and comment there.

A letters page gives readers room to explain what they think and why, and it lets others consider a different view. Letters published here do not necessarily reflect the views of the editor, the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation or the Archdiocese of Sydney.

But they tell us what you think matters. They can alert us to something we may have overlooked or got wrong. They tell us when you loved something you read, found it helpful or disagreed.

One of our CW patrons, St Francis de Sales, wrote tens of thousands of letters offering advice and encouragement. We’re not asking anyone  to match his output in volume or form, but a letter now and then will do, perhaps written with a cup of tea and a chocolate-chip biscuit at hand.

What will you write about? You might have personal experience of something you have read about in these pages and want to share it here. You might know more about a subject than we do or be able to offer another side of the story.

Perhaps you have a concern about something happening in the church or wider society. Perhaps something wonderful is happening in your parish, school or community and you think other Catholics should know about it.

You might want to respond to one of our columnists, add something to a news report or correct a point of history. You may simply want to thank a writer whose words encouraged you, made you think or arrived at just the right time.

Basically, if you have something to say, we would love to hear from you.

A lively letters page should make our newspaper better. It should be a place for thoughtful discussion, honest disagreement and the exchange of ideas among people who care about the church and the world in which we live.

We only ask that your letter is charitable, respectful and fewer than 250 words. You are welcome to disagree strongly with something we have published, but please address the argument rather than attacking the person making it.

Unfortunately we cannot respond to or publish every letter we receive, but we promise to read them. Those selected may be edited without notice for length, clarity, accuracy, Catholic Weekly house style or legal reasons.

For the best chance of publication, make your letter concise and stick to one main point. Please include your full name, suburb or town, and a telephone number so we can contact you for verification if we need to. Your telephone number will not be published.

If you are responding to an article, please also include its headline and publication date, to make the context of your letter clear.

Email your letter to cweditor@catholicweekly.com.au or post it to CW Editor, Locked Bag 5040, Alexandria NSW 2015.

We look forward to reading it!

Happy Father’s Day

We wish all fathers, grandfathers, godfathers and spiritual fathers a very happy Father’s Day! God bless you all, and we the day brings you much love and opportunities for a dad joke or two. We hope it also brings at least a few minutes of uninterrupted  newspaper reading. We remember in prayer, too, those missing their fathers and fathers who are missing the presence of their children.
