On the evening of 8 December, the Feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, more than 200 people took part in a torchlight procession from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Earlwood, to the Grotto of the Society of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Fr Roberto Castilla, Earlwood parish priest and society chaplain, led the procession, which followed the statue of Our Lady carried by members of The Family Cenacle Group Sydney.

The rosary was prayed and hymns were sung throughout the procession, in the same tradition as the nightly torchlight procession at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.

On Sunday 8 February 2026, a Mass and Blessing of the Sick will be held at the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, Earlwood, at 3pm.

The Society of Our Lady of Lourdes was founded in 1967 through the efforts of Mrs Claire Bain.

Its constitution was drafted, presented to, and approved by His Eminence Cardinal Sir Norman Gilroy in 1970.

That same year, Cardinal Gilroy applied for affiliation with the Archconfraternity of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady of Lourdes, which was granted, bringing many indulgences and privileges to members.

The Grotto was blessed and dedicated by His Eminence Cardinal Sir James Freeman in 1973.
