Hundreds of families from Sydney’s west made the trip to the shrine of Our Lady of Mercy in Penrose Park in celebration of the Feast of the Holy Innocents.
The annual visit by parishioners of St Joseph’s Moorebank and St Christopher’s Holsworthy was part of the Somascan Christmas pilgrimage which took place on the feast’s vigil on 27 December.
After Mass was celebrated for the pilgrims by Fr Chris de Sousa CRS, visiting Somascan priest from Rome, and Fr David Romero CRS, assistant priest of St Joseph’s Moorebank and St Christopher’s Holsworthy, the crowds processed through the grounds of the shrines while reciting the Holy Rosary.
The procession culminated at the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes where pilgrims were able to pray privately before heading back to the main church for a shared lunch.
