As a staple in many young adults’ calendars, Fidelis launched its first event of the year on 25 February, drawing hundreds of young people together to ask the big questions about faith, vocation and life.
The night began at St Joachim’s in Lidcombe with Eucharistic Adoration and Mass, followed by a time of eating and catching up before heading into the parish hall for a Q&A with the panellists.
“We have such a great line-up today with the panellists,” said Sofia Mifsud from the Sydney Catholic Youth team (SCY).
“They’re all so knowledgeable in their areas and will be able to give good advice to the young adults who are seeking answers and clarity on certain topics.”
The night’s theme, “You can’t ask that,” encouraged the young adults to submit questions anonymously before the event. The questions encouraged were ones they might hesitate to raise with friends or family or feel like they’re not allowed to voice.
On the panel discussing the questions were Vocations Director Fr Daniele Russo, Chancellor for the Archdiocese of Sydney Monica Doumit, Parish Renewal Team Lead and Business owner, Tania and Tony Rimac and Religious Sister of Mercy of Alma, and qualified GP Sr Maliya.

Before the Q&A began, the two newest SCY team members, Koe Evangelista and Rachael Johnson, were introduced to the crowd and officially welcomed into Fidelis. Both shared their excitement at joining a growing movement and witnessing firsthand the strong desire among young adults for fellowship, formation, and authentic connection.
Questions on the night centred on persevering through spiritual dryness, discerning one’s vocation, and overcoming fear and loneliness in relationships. Reflecting on times when God feels distant, Tony Rimac emphasised the importance of fidelity.
“You show up consistently, persistently and persevere – he’ll always guide you, he’s always there,” he said.
“Be honest with your prayer,” Tania advised. “Let God know, I don’t really feel like being here right now, but here I am.”
A first time attendee, Beth, said it was extremely valuable to hear about how one must be courageous.
“I really liked Tania’s quote from St Mary Mackillop about God loving and backing a courageous person. We can sometimes let fear take over and paralyse us or prevent us from seeking and doing what God wants,” she said.

“So it’s a good reminder to trust God and that he backs you even when you don’t know what’s ahead.”
With such a strong turnout the SCY team is hoping the enthusiasm continues throughout the year, especially in the lead up to Eucharist28.
“We want people to know they are loved by Christ and have people to walk with on that journey,” Sofia explained.
“With the International Eucharistic Congress coming up, we have a great opportunity to provide encounter and build a love for Jesus in the Eucharist.”
