Our Lady of Victories Parish in Horsley Park is going all-out to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the dedication and opening of their church.
Throughout Advent they will host a Christmas lights spectacular, as well as a series of events designed to evangelise and to celebrate the Christmas season.
The surrounds of the church, as well as its interior and exterior, will be aglow with festive colours and images every evening from 1 to 25 December.
Pastoral Associate, Mary Farrell, says as well as marking the church’s anniversary, the light show is also designed to attract those who may not otherwise visit a Catholic church.
“Our goal is to showcase our church and parish, to evangelise and reach out to those in our community who, for whatever reason, have left the Church. Many may be wanting to return but don’t know how to achieve this.”
“Christmas is the perfect time to try to reach out in welcome.”
The facade of the church will be illuminated every night, from 8pm to 11pm, with Christian images and the church will be open during that time for anyone to make a visit. The piety store will be open and parishioners available to answer any questions.
There will also be a line-up of festive events throughout Advent at the parish. On Saturday 8 December, Artes Christi will perform Christmas carols from 5.30pm to 6pm.
Students from Feeman Catholic College will perform on 12 December, and Fr Chris Riley from Youth Off the Streets, will celebrate a youth Mass at 6pm on Sunday 16 December followed by a sausage sizzle and keynote address by Fr Chris. The evening will raise funds for Youth Off the Streets.
