Pope addresses recent mass murder during general audience

Most read

At the end of the general audience, Pope Francis lamented a recent mass murder. He did not cite the location, although all indications are that it could be Burkina Faso, where violence is rampant and the country is out of control.

“Let us pray for peace, brothers and sisters,” he said.

“Yesterday I saw that 150 innocent people were machine-gunned. What do children, families, have to do with war? They are the first victims.”

Minutes before he had continued with the catechesis of the Holy Spirit. He focused on the sacrament of confirmation.

“It is said to be the sacrament of goodbye because once the young people do it they leave and will come back later for marriage,” he said.

“That’s what people say. It won’t be like that for everyone, young or old. Because the important thing is that for some it won’t be like that and these will become the ones who will animate the community.”

Pope Francis said that confirmation is the sacrament of maturity and the one that is supposed to lead to “bearing witness to one’s faith.”
