Pope Francis celebrates Mass for dead cardinals

Most read

At the Mass for cardinals and bishops who died in the last year, the pope reflected on what image to remember of those who are no longer with us.

“Indeed, there is a way and a manner of remembering people and things. One can remember grievances, remember unfinished business, remember friends and adversaries,” he said.

“Brothers and sisters, let us ask ourselves today before this Gospel scene: How are people in our hearts? How do we remember those who pass by us in the vicissitudes of life? Do I judge, divide or welcome?”

Eight cardinals have died in the last 12 months. Pope Francis said each loved the church in a different way.

Among those purpurates was the one who until July was in charge of announcing the new pope in case of a conclave.

Also, Sergio Sebastiani, who was a close collaborator of Saint John Paul II and for a time directed the Vatican economy.
