Pope Francis criticised multinational corporations that open factories in countries in need but do not promote local development.
He reflected on the good and bad points of today’s world of finance. In particular, he criticised multinational corporations that open factories in countries in need, but do not promote local development.
“When the only criterion is profit, there are negative consequences for the real economy,” he said.
“When finance tramples people, foments inequalities and distances itself from the life of the territories, it betrays its purpose. It becomes, I would say, it becomes an uncivil economy: it lacks civility.”
Pope Francis made these remarks during his audience with representatives from Italian banking institutions.
