In a celebration of faith, heritage, and community spirit, St Charbel’s Monastery has unveiled one of Australia’s largest pixel Christmas trees, standing at an impressive 8 meters tall.

This dazzling display, adorned with thousands of synchronised pixel lights, plays to the tune of cherished Christmas songs, creating a festive atmosphere like no other. This breath-taking tree, the result of six months of tireless work by the youth of St Charbel’s monastery, was first lit during the monastery’s annual Light the Night event on 13 December.

Over 3,000 faithful gathered to witness this magical moment, marking a centrepiece in the parish’s year-long 50th jubilee celebrations, which commemorate the first Mass held at the church on Christmas Eve 1974.

A Celebration of Faith and Joy The Christmas display is more than a visual masterpiece; it is a beacon of hope, joy, and unity that reflects the true spirit of the season.

“The Christmas tree reminds us of Christ’s light in the world, and it’s a celebration of faith, love, and the community we’ve built over the past 50 years,” Fr Anthony El-kazzi, secretary of the trustees of the Lebanese Maronite Order, said.

The nightly Christmas light show, featuring the pixel tree and other displays, will run on the school grounds from 8pm to 11pm until 5 January, offering a magical experience for families and visitors.

St Charbel’s Monastery is also hosting Christmas by the Cedars, a vibrant Christmas market showcasing Middle Eastern heritage through food, culture, artisanal stalls and entertainment (including the bearded bakers).

The markets will run from 19-22 December, drawing an expected crowd of 15,000 to 20,000 visitors, with some great traditional Middle Eastern cuisine, handmade goods, and a warm, festive atmosphere that reflects the rich cultural tapestry of the community.

Families can enjoy a variety of activities, shop for unique gifts, and savour authentic dishes, all while celebrating the joy and generosity of the Christmas season.

This year’s celebrations are particularly meaningful as the parish marks its 50th jubilee, celebrating five decades of faith, fellowship, and service since the first Mass was held at St Charbel’s Church in 1974.

“Christmas by the Cedars is a way to honour our heritage and share the beauty of our traditions with the wider community. It is a reminder of the blessings we’ve received over the years and a celebration of the bonds that unite us,” Fr Anthony said.

With the pixel Christmas tree lighting up the night sky and the festive markets bringing people together, St Charbel’s Monastery invites everyone to join in the celebrations and experience the true meaning of Christmas—faith, family, and unity.

Whether you come for the lights, the music, or the markets, this season at St Charbel’s promises to be a heart-warming celebration of faith and community.
