St Mary’s Cathedral College has accepted female students for the first time in 58 years.

The move, announced in 2024, saw 60 girls join the year seven cohort of 156 students at the beginning of the 2025 school year.

The college, which was originally co-educational until 1967, is slowly phasing out the all-boys year groups over the next five years.

To accommodate the new students, a new campus on Williams Street has been acquired, which will be the primary locations for the year nine to 12 male students.

The college is one of the first all-boys’ school to make the move to co-educational, with Newington College and Cranbrook School accepting female students in 2026.
