Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) will once again take centre stage when the state’s best young touch footballers converge on the Central Coast Regional Sporting & Recreation Complex for the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Selection Trials on 21-22 April.

Fielding teams in the under-15 boys and girls and under-18 boys and girls divisions, SCS enters the prestigious carnival with confidence and momentum, determined to build on the success of previous years. Following last year’s under-15s girls triumph, SCS is aiming to defend its title while also securing strong representation in the NSWCCC touch football team.

The trials provide an opportunity for the state’s top Catholic school athletes to showcase their skill, speed and game awareness in front of selectors. For many SCS players, the event represents the culmination of months of preparation and high-level competition.

SCS touch football convenor Mark Hildebrandt believes this year’s girls squads are primed for another breakthrough campaign.

“Our girls’ teams are the strongest they have ever been,” Hildebrandt said. “There is genuine depth across both age groups, and many of these athletes have been performing at an exceptional level in club competitions. We’re hopeful they can fulfil their potential again this year.”

Several SCS students have recently returned from major state carnivals in Wagga Wagga and Dubbo, where they represented their clubs with distinction against the best junior talent in NSW. That experience is expected to prove invaluable in the high-pressure trial environment.

Across all four divisions, SCS will rely on its trademark speed, structured attacking play and disciplined defence – hallmarks of the program’s continued growth across the system. With strong preparation behind them and pride in the SCS jersey driving their performances, the squads are eager to leave their mark.

As the whistle blows on two days of elite competition, Sydney Catholic Schools will not only be chasing titles but striving to see as many of their athletes as possible earn selection in the NSWCCC touch football team – a reward for dedication, resilience and outstanding performance on the big stage.
