Approval, public consensus and visibility are often given undue importance in modern society, shaping how people think, behave and even understand themselves, Pope Leo XIV warned in his 18 January Angelus address.

During the Angelus, Pope Francis reflected on the instructions Jesus gave his disciples when they went out to preach. He told them to go in pairs, meaning to not to go alone.

"Jesus is not interested in putting us on trial or subjecting us to judgment. He wants none of us to be lost,” the pope said.

Pontiff invites young people to reach out to the aged with calls, messages and if possible, visits.
