The Seminary of the Good Shepherd in Homebush has welcomed its new students and staff at a Mass to open the seminary year.

St Luke’s parish in Revesby in Sydney’s south has unveiled six new statues to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the primary school. Four of the statues join the two already in place outside the parish, St Luke, at the church’s entrance, and St Charbel, the first of the statues.

Sydney’s Catholic community welcomed Bishop Tony Percy on May 2, adding to a notable roster of bishops named Anthony, including Archbishop Anthony Fisher, Broken Bay Bishop Anthony Randazzo, and Maronite Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay.

At the ordination of Sydney’s new auxiliary bishop, Tony Percy, St Mary’s Cathedral radiated joy. Mozart’s Ave verum soared to the star-coffered ceiling, blending with silent prayer from a diverse congregation, offering a glimpse of the divine.

To a world growing ever darker and emptier, Christians can bring Christ’s light, fullness and “sense of order,” said Bishop Tony Percy following his episcopal ordination as Australia’s newest bishop.

Sydney Bishop-Elect Tony Percy hopes his ordination to the episcopate at St Mary’s Cathedral on 2 May will be a special occasion for the church and confirmation for all present of the nearness of God to his people.
