In an interview before the second anniversary of Israel-Hamas war, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin patriarch of Jerusalem said that "what is happening militarily in Gaza is a disaster," with the consequences of a "human devastation," and "brutalisation of mutual relations between Israelis and Palestinians."

Parishioners at Gaza's Holy Family Parish are in shock and despair after an Israeli tank shell struck their compound 17 July, killing three elderly sheltering there and wounding 10.

The importance of continuity and diversity as well as the issues of war and peace were a main topic of conversation for the 133 cardinals as they gathered to vote in the conclave 7-8 May, said Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin patriarch of Jerusalem.

Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa expressed hope the war between Gaza and Israel will end, during the Rimini meeting. 

As the Israel-Hamas war edges toward the one-year mark, the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem is calling on the faithful to pray for peace while observing the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 15 August.

Cities such as Jerusalem, Nazareth and Tel Aviv have called for the Arnona municipal tax to be applied to church property, which is currently exempted by seniority.  

Cardinal Pizzaballa visited the Catholic community in Gaza for the first time since the escalation of the conflict more than seven months ago.
