Cardinal Mykola Bychok told thousands gathered for the Day of the Unborn Child that the Jubilee Year of Hope is a time “to proclaim boldly that every life is precious, and that God's mercy is greater than any darkness we face.”

On 23 March, thousands are expected to gather at St Mary's Cathedral for the annual Day of the Unborn Child, a powerful display of faith and solidarity in defence of the most vulnerable members of society.

While the conception of every new life awaits the moment of birth which brings joy for the couple as they hold their new child in awe, there is something very dark and disturbing sweeping the world of our time. It is the culture of abortion, a culture of death, Archbishop Julian Porteous said in his address on the day of the unborn child.

"At a time of universal grief and horror at the multiple murders and injuries at Bondi Junction yesterday, including the stabbing of a baby—as well as celebration of the courage of the baby’s mother, the policewoman, and other bystanders—we reflect upon our community’s profound commitment to the value of every human life," Archbishop Fisher said.
