St Joseph’s parish in Enfield in Sydney’s inner west has welcomed Anthony Karaira as the archdiocese’s newest deacon.

On a day the world marks with roses, chocolates, and romance newly-ordained Deacon Lawrence Zimbe offered a bouquet not to a sweetheart, but to Our Lady, following his Valentine’s Day ordination by Bishop Daniel Meagher in Annandale.

On Saturday, 22 November, Peter Van Khuơng Tran, a young Vietnamese seminarian, was ordained by Bishop Daniel Meagher in Fairfield. 

After years of study, two young men will be ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Daniel Meagher on 21 May.

"Being ordained is not an ascent but a descent, whereby we make ourselves small, lower ourselves and divest ourselves," Pope Francis said in a message to 23 men from eight countries, including three from the United States, who were ordained permanent deacons in St Peter's Basilica.

Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Waterloo celebrated an historic moment as Deacon Tai was ordained into the diaconate, marking the parish’s first ordination in living memory. Surrounded by loved ones, Deacon Tai reflected on his 13-year journey of faith, perseverance, and God’s love, inspiring hope and joy for the future.

Br Matthew Timonera from the Capuchin Friars was ordained into the diaconate at St Fiacre’s Church in Leichhardt on 28 June. In keeping with his Franciscan charism, he hopes to bring his service at the altar and to the poor together.

This spring Deacon Tom Hosty and his son Liam made history, becoming the first father and son to both be deacons at the same time in the 190-year history of the Catholic Church in central and southern Indiana.

Adrian Suyanto gained more than a degree at university, he also found faith and a vocation to the priesthood.
