Day four of the congress saw our delegates enriched by a talk called “Eucharist and transfiguration of the World” from US Bishop Andrew Cozzens of Minnesota.

The first two days of presentations of the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress in Quito, contrasted the hardships currently being faced by many people in different parts of the world with the prophetic responses that the church can provide in times of crisis.

As day three of the IEC comes to a close, two educators among the Australian delegates are embracing the opportunity to dive deeper into the Eucharistic dimension of their faith and are looking forward to bringing this formation back to their classrooms and communities.

Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, Bishop Richard Umbers, Bishop Daniel Meagher and Australia’s pilgrim priests and laity were warmly welcomed in local parishes across Quito, as part of the International Eucharistic Congress.

More than 27 years since their last meeting, Fr Noel Custodio and Siham El-Hachem have met again, now on the other side of the world in Quito, Ecuador, as part of an observation team for Sydney’s bid to host the 2028 International Eucharistic Congress.

The 53rd International Eucharistic Congress in Quito, Ecuador began with 1,600 children making their First Holy Communion, and more than 20,000 people from all over the world gathering in Bicentennial Park in the capital city. 

Daniel Noboa, Ecuador's current president, met with Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace to strengthen relations.
