Holy Cross Parish in Kincumber NSW hosted a “moving” celebration day in honour of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and the newly-canonised St Peter To Rot on 26 October.  

While couple saints inspire us to emulate them in our homes, it’s the martyrs for marriage who embolden us in the public square.

Holiness flourishes in those who serve the weakest, and Christians should defend the truths of the faith, no matter the cost, Pope Leo XIV said, highlighting key traits of the new saints he proclaimed.

The vice-postulator for the new saint says that he was remarkable not only for his courage, but also for his faith in the Eucharist. Like John the Baptist, he was a martyr for the sanctity of marriage.

Canonising seven new saints on World Mission Sunday, Pope Leo XIV said God is present wherever the innocent suffer, and his form of justice is forgiveness.

Papua New Guinea’s first canonised saint was a dedicated catechist and a martyr for marriage. Killed by Japanese soldiers in 1945, he is a model of Christian consistency.
