At the end of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus gives his disciples a directive known as the Great Commission: “to go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” It’s a mandate often quoted in churches, preached from pulpits, and taught in catechism classes.
