Pope Francis established a day for grandparents and the elderly in 2021 to be celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July to highlight the plight of loneliness, neglect and insecurity many of them experience, which he addressed during the Angelus this year.

On Sunday 28 July our elderly, especially our grandparents, are celebrated globally with the inaugural World Grandparents and The Elderly Day. “We must let older people know that they are needed and that they are essential to building the world of tomorrow,” Pope Francis declared.
