A married couple, both internationally acclaimed Vatican journalists and authors, will soon land in Australia to promote their book, The Election of Pope Leo XIV: The Last Surprise of Pope Francis.
The book offers an insider’s look into the 2025 conclave which led to Pope Leo XIV’s election. Hosted by the University of Notre Dame Australia’s Global Centre for Catholic Leaders, Gerard O’Connell and Elisabetta Piqué will be welcomed in what is a rare event.
The duo will visit Fremantle, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, sharing their insights on contemporary Vatican affairs, the election of Pope Leo XIV, Pope Francis’ legacy and the topics discussed in their book.
“Gerard and Elisabetta have spent decades reporting on some of the most significant moments in contemporary Church history,” said Laura Avery, director of Notre Dame Australia’s Global Centre for Catholic Leaders.
“We are delighted to welcome them to Australia and look forward to bringing together Catholic leaders, educators, clergy and members of the wider community for reflective conversations about faith, leadership and communication,” she said.
At the University of Notre Dame’s Sydney campus, there are two events on Thursday 27 August. The first starts at 9:30am and is titled, Leading in a Synodal Church: Lessons from Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV.
The second starts at 2:00pm and is titled, Building Trust, Telling Meaningful Stories and Communicating
